American College of Veterinary PathologyFormed in 1948, the ACVP has provided postgraduate qualifications for many veterinary pathologists in the USA, and to a lesser extent, worldwide. An appreciable number of UK veterinary pathologists have obtained diplomate status, although it is relatively difficult to achieve without spending some time in the USA.There is little by way of local coordination of training and guidance in the UK and assistance is mainly achieved on an ad hoc basis. For veterinary pathologists wishing to work anywhere in the world, especially in the USA, this qualification is extremely useful and can result in a significantly higher salary than for those without it.The syllabus for the Diplomate examination is wide ranging and includes all species groups and provided the model for the ECVP examination.
