The Veterinary Sciences Division of the NI Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute

The Disease Surveillance and Investigation branch of the Veterinary Sciences Divisionoperates from both VSD at Stormont, Belfast and Omagh in County Tyrone. Veterinary Research Officers within this branch, several of whom are veterinary pathologists, carry out gross post mortem and histopathological examinations as part of diagnostic and statutory surveillance and research programmes.

The diagnostic surveillance work also involves examination of clinical specimens including clinical pathology. The species involved are mainly farm animals and poultry with smaller numbers of other species including fish, wildlife, equines and companion animals.
